Shay was raised with a passion for hunting and fishing running through his veins. His early days were spent in the woods of Montana with his father chasing rainbow trout in the local waterways and hiking through the hills for deer and elk. He discovered a passion for the culinary arts while helping his grandmother cook family dinners. This led to formal culinary training through many courses in high school, as well with Le Cordon Bleu in Seattle in 2017. These experiences renewed his passion for hunting and understanding where meat comes from. His days are mostly spent training his 2-year-old yellow lab Molly on waterfowl, mentoring new hunters, and teaching them the benefits of processing and cooking their own harvest.
